Airman 1st Class Taylor DeMello, 315th Training Squadron student, is the Goodfellow Student of the Month Spotlight for June, a series highlighting exceptional Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines.

17th Training Wing Public Affairs: What led you to join the military?

DeMello: At the time the military aligned in an uncanny way with my ideals and values and my plans for the future. I’m actually guard and a lot of what the Air Force stands for appealed to me on a personal level.

What has been the most impactful moment in your career so far?

Probably the moment I got my green rope when I joined the Airmen leader program. It’s the moment that I realized that I could not only manage but lead Airmen and I think it’s the moment others recognized it as well.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy playing guitar, drawing, studying and riding my motorcycle.

What do you want to accomplish during your time here at Goodfellow Air Force Base?

During my time here at Goodfellow I really want to grow and develop my skills as an Airman and a leader. I want to better understand people and what motivates them, in order to accomplish what needs to be accomplished, but first and foremost I want to be able to take care of the people around me.

Is there any advice or anything extra you would like to share?

Your time here at Goodfellow is what you make of it. There are plenty of opportunities for you to shine and for you to pursue things that would make you successful and that would satisfy and fulfil you. You just have to go and look for them.
