Sometimes when people think about the Commissary, they think about the food and not the people who work behind the scenes. One individual determined to make a positive impact behind the scenes is the new Goodfellow Commissary Officer, Edith Dowtin.

“My role is to facilitate the needs of the military community by providing valuable service through the benefit of discounted products,” said Dowtin. “My goals are to provide customers with healthy alternatives according to their dietary needs and assist with promoting the Commissary’s brand products.”

Dowtin knew early on that she wanted a management level position.

“I come from a large family that hinged on efficiency and that is why I was able to work my way up through [Defense Commissary Agency],” said Dowtin. “I’ve always identified with DeCA’s bottom line: save money without compromising the integrity of our products. I started my career as an entry level store worker and progressed through displayed potential to thrive at higher levels within the agency.”

DeCA operates a worldwide chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Shoppers save thousands of dollars annually on their purchases compared to commercial prices when shopping regularly at a commissary.

“I would like to say to the community that we are here to serve them. We want them to take advantage of their benefit. I encourage them to visit our website for specials and/or recipes to a healthy living. “

The Commissary will strive to introduce new ideas going into the year.

“2018 is going to be a great year for the Commissary because we have new ideas, new enthusiasm, new energy and new innovations in the presence of Ms. Dowtin,” said Deputy Commissary Officer Glenn Sergeant. “We’re excited as a staff to have Ms. Dowtin lead us into 2018 with fresh perspectives on ratcheting up the level of customer service and satisfaction.”
