Wingman resources Published May 22, 2012 By Tech. Sgt. James Fountain 17th Training Wing/Safety GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Going back in time to our forefather's military, if there was a problem with a member, that member was usually told to "toughen up" and was sent on their way. If it had been a negative event, others would have known about it and there were repercussions to follow on top of embarrassment. Talking to someone about stress, alcoholism or even something that had been ailing them was usually looked at as a weakness. Over time things have changed and helping hands are available in so many areas of expertise. There is one key aspect that has not been lost through generations. Our military force is one big family. Like any other family, we might not all get along with our brother or sister at times but through it all though, the tight bonds, understanding of military life, ability to adapt to new situations and excel is ever present. We can thank our forefathers for enduring the tough times without the resources that are present today. So, in saying that, what excuses would we have not to consider our options? On Goodfellow there is even a local phone number that anyone can call to get assistance, on or off duty. The only thing to ask is: what options don't we have? Airmen at all levels of command have a role as Wingmen. Friends, family and work all depend on each other even when not openly expressed. Being military, we get used to seeing people PCS, deploy, retire, swap work areas, or even go on leave. It creates a hole where that individual was, the people that miss them, that comfortable consistency, or just random conversations. Listed below is a quick reference for the resources that can be utilized for assistance, advice and support at all levels.
