GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Travis team includes host unit 60th Air Mobility Wing, the 15th Expeditionary Mobility Task Force, 615th Contingency Response Wing, 349th Air Mobility Wing, and more than 18 other tenant organizations, with more than 14,000 service members and Defense Department civilians.
60TH AIR MOBILITY WING
The 60th Air Mobility Wing is the largest air mobility organization in the Air Force with a versatile all-jet fleet of C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globmaster III cargo and KC-10 Extender refueling aircraft. As the host unit of Travis Air Force Base, Calif., the wing controls more than $11 billion in total resources, including more than 6,000 acres and more than 1,700 buildings. It handles more cargo and passengers than any other military air terminal in the United States. Travis is the West Coast terminal for aeromedical evacuation aircraft returning sick or injured patients from the Pacific area.
Part of Air Mobility Command and the 18th Air Force, which is headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Ill, the wing is responsible for strategic airlift and air refueling missions circling the globe. The unit's primary roles are to provide rapid, reliable airlift of American fighting forces anywhere on earth in support of national objectives and to extend the reach of American and allied air power through mid-air refueling. The 60th AMW can fly support missions anywhere in the world to fulfill its motto of being "America's First Choice" for providing true Global Reach.
Travis maintains a work force of service members and DOD employees supporting its global mission. In addition, thousands of reservists assigned to the associate 349th Air Mobility Wing combine with their active duty and civilian counterparts to form a fully integrated Total Force team. The massive Travis work force makes an economic impact in the local community of more than $1 billion annually.
THE 15TH EXPEDITIONARY MOBILITY TASK FORCE
The 15th EMTF is one of two EMTF assigned to the Air Force's Air Mobility Command. Headquartered at Travis, its main mission is to provide skilled in-place and deployable air mobility support forces to rapidly establish, expand, sustain, coordinate and document air mobility operations.
The 15th EMTF extends existing AMC infrastructure, through both in-place employment and rapid forward deployment capabilities, and presents forces to warfighting unified commanders by focusing on meeting the nation's global air mobility requirements. The 15th EMTF also employs mission-ready command and control, aerial port, and aircraft maintenance personnel, as well as airlift, air refueling, aeromedical evacuation and airfield opening planning, assessment, and execution expertise, to project and sustain combat forces worldwide.
THE 615TH CONTINGENCY RESPONSE WING
The 615th CRW is one of two CRW assigned to the Air Force's Air Mobility Command. The CRW is the Air Force's global reach crisis response force.
The 615th CRW provides global reach laydown support through rapid forward deployment of multi-skilled combat teams extending Air Mobility Command enroute airlift support infrastructure and opening contingency forward airbases, permitting airlift of follow-on forces. The wing employs mission-ready airfield assessment teams, airfield operations, command and control, aerial port, and aircraft maintenance personnel, as well as airlift, weather, medical, intelligence, air traffic control, security forces, finance, fuels, supply and contracting personnel to project and sustain forces worldwide. It provides for war-fighting combatant commanders' needs to meet the nation's National Security requirements.
349th AIR MOBILITY WING
The 349th Air Mobility Wing is the associate reserve partner of the 60th Air Mobility Wing--the largest air mobility organization in the Air Force. As a reserve partner, the 349th AMW works alongside 60th AMW personnel, operating and maintaining the all-jet fleet of C-5 Galaxy cargo and KC-10 Extender refueling aircraft. 349th AMW members work in all capacities with active duty personnel, to include Operations, Maintenance, Mission Support, Maintenance and Medical.
As part of the Air Force Reserve Command, the 349th AMW is responsible for supporting the active duty wing in providing global strategic airlift and air refueling missions.
