Looking to improve your eating habits? Trying to get fit and stay fit? Look no further than your local Health and Wellness Center.

With a fully staffed facility, the HAWC offers a variety of options to improve yourself.

The purpose of the HAWC is to ensure Goodfellow team members are fit for training, fit for duty, and fit for deploying.

"We accomplish this by targeting five major areas of health and wellness; tobacco free living and prevention, healthy weight, healthy eating, physical activity and programs offered through Goodfellow community partnerships," said Capt. Irene Jackson, 17th Medical Operations Squadron Aerospace Medicine Flight Commander.

The HAWC offers a variety of programs from classes to pamphlets to one-on-one sessions with staff. They also have a health educator, registered dietician, and exercise physiologist.

Anyone with access to the base can use the HAWC, although some of the special programs are reserved for active duty members.

Located next to Mathis Fitness Center, the HAWC has a BOD POD, which is a medical device designed to provide the most accurate body composition and metabolic assessment, a kitchen and classroom area for classes and two relaxation rooms with relaxation chairs.

Walk in any time Monday through Friday to pick up pamphlets on a variety of topics ranging from healthy cooking to smoking and your heart. While there you can pick up a calendar with classes listed for the month. Some of the classes available are stress management, biomechanics, injury prevention, diabetes management, and Be Well.

The Be Well class is a revitalized version of the Healthy Living Program class, and consists of three educational components; fitness, nutrition and behavior changes designed to assist servicemembers having trouble with their PT test.
