U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Brian Benavidez, 315th Training Squadron Officer student, is the newest 17th Training Group Student of the Month Spotlight, a series highlighting Team Goodfellow students.

17th Training Wing Public Affairs: What led you to join the military?

Benavidez: I joined in 2006. I grew up in the North West and not many people joined the military. It was a unique opportunity that I really could not do anywhere else and it really separated me from my peers.

What has been the most impactful moment in your career so far?

I would say getting picked up to become an officer and going through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program and learning a lot about leadership and the difference between the enlisted and officer core. I was prior enlisted and commissioned in 2014.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy photography and road biking.

What do you want to accomplish during your time here at Goodfellow Air Force Base?

I want to learn what it means to become the best intelligence officer that I can be, also, what the career field really means and what it means to become a successful officer in the Intel field.

Is there any advice or anything extra you would like to share?

I want to point out that it’s not just the student that wins Student of the Month it’s really the class. The support in the class and teamwork that you build there is what really creates the Student of the Month.
