Army Sgt. Alicia Seeley, 316th Training Squadron student, is the Goodfellow Student of the Month Spotlight for June, a series highlighting exceptional Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines.

17th Training Wing Public Affairs: What led you to join the military?

Seeley: I was 18, I wasn’t ready for college and the Army seemed like a good option to get out of Utah and experience some things.

What has been the most impactful moment in your career so far?

When I was learning Chinese, they had me go up for battalion soldier of the quarter. I had lunch with the battalion commander and he talked to us each one on one. He was a great commander and I respect him a lot. The advice he gave me impacted me and everything that I’ve done ever since.

What are your hobbies?

I play a lot of sports including ultimate Frisbee, basketball and volleyball. I love hiking, rock climbing and being outside.

What do you want to accomplish during your time here at Goodfellow Air Force Base?

First and foremost, I would like to pass the course and I would like to maintain my proficiency level in Chinese. I would also like to win the [Skilled Tough Ready Around the Clock] award. It’s an incentive for physical training score and class score.

Is there any advice or anything extra you would like to share?

I think the only advice I have is not to sell yourself short. I think a lot of people don’t go out for things or compete just because they’re not sure they can do it. Even if you fail, the greatest experience is to try.
