Texas Airmen admire Monterey Model
Jon Anderson, a City of Monterey maintenance supervisor, shows visiting civic leaders the city's maintenance record archive inside it's customer service center on the Presidio of Monterey, an Army installation in Monterey California. Military and civic leaders from San Angelo, Texas and Goodfellow Air Force visited the Presidio of Monterey to explore the Monterey, California Army installation's unique civic partnerships. The Monterey Model saves the Army money by sharing resources with the nearby cities of Seaside and Monterey, California, where possible for common municipal and city services, such as public works and safety. A 2000 Army Audit Agency review validated the cost savings, confirming Presidio of Monterey saved 41% over the cost of reimbursements to the Navy (which also operates a small military installation in the area) under a previous agreement, a total savings of more than $2.5 million annually.
