T-6G Texan Facts North American T-6 Basics The T-6 Texan was one of the key trainer aircraft of World War II. North American Aviation built more than 15,000 Texans between 1938 and 1945, delivering two-thirds of these to the Army Air Forces. Powered by one Pratt and Whitney R-1340 radial engine, the Texan closely matched the performance and handling characteristics of many operational aircraft. Primarily used as a pilot trainer aircraft.
