Goodfellow and the San Angelo community celebrated Independence Day with the 29th Annual San Angelo Symphony’s Pops Concert at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial RiverStage July 3.

The concert featured fireworks, patriotic songs and Goodfellow volunteer demonstrations to include a state flag review and a U.S. flag presentation from the South Chadbourne Street Bridge.

“What a blessing it is to be gathered here with some 35,000 of us…to celebrate our nation’s 240th birthday,” said Dwain Morrison, San Angelo mayor. “Thank you so much for being here and enjoy your evening. God bless America.”

People from across the nation attended the concert.

"I really enjoyed listening to the concert and watching the fireworks,” said Natalie Ray, California native. "I appreciated how supportive the city is of its military and vice versa. The whole celebration was very patriotic.”

The next day, the celebration continued at the Goodfellow Recreation Camp, 0where individuals could come out to enjoy fireworks or reminisce about the past.

"This is [my family and my] third assignment here, which is without a doubt the best home in the United States Air Force,” said Col. Alex Ganster, inbound 17th Training Group Commander. “This community has a lot of fond memories for us. Since our return, we’ve noticed that place we fell in love with is not just the same, but actually better."
