The U.S. Air Force declared October Energy Action Month. Goodfellow is announcing Oct. 17 through Oct. 24 as Energy Week and signing a proclamation by Col. Jeffrey Sorrell, 17th Training Wing vice commander, at the Norma Brown building Oct 17.

To increase awareness of energy conservation, several events, including an energy exercise competition at the Mathis Fitness Center, will take place all over base.

“The one who generates the most amount of energy on a cycle will win the prize of a Yeti cooler,” said Sorrell.

While the competition is aimed towards fun, energy week is aimed towards conservation.

“The U.S. Air Force spends approximately 10 billion dollars annually on energy while Goodfellow annually consumes 3 million dollars roughly,” said Airman Alexander Presley, 17th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management apprentice.
The Air Force performs several energy awareness programs because of their importance.

“We can’t do anything on base without energy, everything we do requires energy,” said Sorrell. “But energy costs money, the more we preserve and the more we smartly use energy the more savings we will have and we will even save the climate. We can all do our part to preserve and conserve energy here on base.”

Taking action doesn’t require a complete change in lifestyle but rather making small changes.

“This week commemorates the essential role that both energy and water play into our lives, making both modern society and the Air Force function,” said Presley.
