GAFB instructor wins AF award Published April 6, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Stephen Musal Public Affairs GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- A member of Team Goodfellow was named Air Force Intelligence Awards Program Outstanding Enlisted Instructor of the Year for 2006 during a banquet March 27 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Master Sgt. Christopher Ginther, the Electronic Systems and Cryptologic Linguist Training flight chief with the 316th Training Squadron, was presented the award by Lt. Gen. David Deptula, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance. Sergeant Ginther said he was nominated for the award by his former supervisor, Senior Master Sgt. Mark Hesterman, when Sergeant Ginther was a course supervisor with the 316 TRS. "Master Sgt. Ginther is an Airman's Airman," said Lt. Col. Richard Moorehead, 316 TRS commander. "He puts the students first; they are the sole focus of his efforts. He is a smart, hardworking and professional senior noncommissioned officer," Colonel Moorehead continued. Among the many accomplishments which led to Sergeant Ginther's nomination were his leadership on the 316 TRS' student senior airman below-the-zone process, his revamping of four written tests, five performance tests and 42 performance lessons to meet current training standards, his achievement of the highest possible score on the language proficiency exam and his status as part of the top five percent of Air Force Korean linguists. "The squadron leadership knows that when Master Sgt. Ginther is assigned any task, he will exceed expectations," Colonel Moorehead said. "He get things done right the first time." Sergeant Ginther is from Fresno, Calif., and enlisted in the Air Force in 1991 as a Korean Cryptologic Linguist. He has been assigned to Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, three times, with breaks in between to attend the Intermediate and Advanced Korean courses at the DLI, Airman Leadership School at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and the Kadena Air Base, Japan, NCO Academy. Sergeant Ginther, whose military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Force Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, has also been recognized as the 17th Training Wing's Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2006. With all these accomplishments behind Sergeant Ginther, Colonel Moorehead said he was ecstatic to see the Air Force recognize such a great Airman, who the colonel said he was very proud of. "I know he'll continue to be a great leader for our Air Force," Colonel Moorehead said. "I bet we'll see him as a chief master sergeant one day."
