The Goodfellow Air Force Base African-Amercian Heritage Committee hosted the 2007 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Observance Jan. 19 at the Events Center here.

With more than 50 people in attendance, the commermorative observance began with a brief presentation of slides depicting the civil rights movement of the 1960s including Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech.

The halls of the Event Center were filled with a harmony of sweet, singing voices from various presenters such as Airman 1st Class Teigess Jones, who sang the National Anthem and Rev. and Mrs. Theo Boone.

A special presentation by 10-year-old Kertron Mackey was rewarded with a standing ovation.

Several audience members commented they learned a lot about Dr. King and his life-long struggle for civil rights thanks to the observance. One fact that surprised several guests was finding out that Dr. King was arrested 20 times and that he was born Michael Luther King.

The observance concluded with Master Sgt. Roberta Pemberton leading guests in a song and guests being treated to snacks and drinks afterward.
