Maj. Gen. Bob LaBrutta, 2nd Air Force Commander, visited Goodfellow Air Force Base as part of a multi-base familiarization tour, Oct. 6 and 7.

This is LaBrutta’s first visit to Goodfellow since taking command of the 2nd Air Force Aug. 26.

“I’m finding out what we need to do a little bit as I’m going,” said LaBrutta. “I’m finding out about the challenges and I’m finding out about the opportunities that we have to make a difference. That’s why we are on the road.”

On his visit, LaBrutta toured various squadrons on base and met with the wing leadership, city of San Angelo community representatives and joint service partners.

“We fight together, we train together, we are one team, one fight, one family,” said LaBrutta “I love our joint service and I’m honored to serve with them.”

LaBrutta used part of his visit to meet with Goodfellow members during an Airman breakfast and a military training leader meet and greet.

"Seeing the general come down to Goodfellow makes me feel like he really cares and it puts into perspective that he is a human and not some scary two-star out to get you," said Airman 1st Class Sean Yaffe, 17th Communications Squadron cyber transport technician.

To conclude his tour, LaBrutta held a base-wide commander’s call.

“I’m proud to be on your team and I look forward to serving with you as the 2nd Air Force Commander,” said LaBrutta. “We need everyone being a part of the team, helping with the decision making process, challenging assumptions, asking questions and helping us dig deeper.”
