17 TRW Black History Month Luncheon

GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  

The Black History Month luncheon was held, Feb. 16. The event started with the Panel of Heroes and finished with a “Taste of Soul.” 

Speakers from different military branches spoke on notable African Americans who had a significant impact on the United States Armed Forces throughout history. Following each speech, the speaker would light a candle in honor of their selected hero. 

Once the Panel of Heroes portion was completed the event turned to socializing and food. While this took place a short slide show while music was played to set the ambience. 

African Americans have made great sacrifices for the United States military. Their profound impact on America continues in a myriad of areas including history, education, entertainment, literature, science, sports, politics, culture, and the military. 

The first official observance of Black History Month was established in February 1976 by President Gerald Ford
